With 5DC, I shared the issue that Movember addresses, men's health and prostate cancer. Along with a few statistics (eg. men aged 65+ are more likely to be diagnosed with prostate cancer) students were told that prostate cancer is a medical issue that affect men. What was stressed was that the action from Movember was mainly to give men's health issues an opportunity to be discussed. My participation in Movember is based solely on creating much needed discussion on the issues that men may sometimes be reluctant to discuss.
I also shared the basic method in which Movember operates, and that it did include a fund-raising component. Using the Movember Singapore website, students had a look at the (small) team of teachers at ISS (all divisions) who were participating in the Movember campaign.
My goal with Movember is primarily in raising awareness through the growth of a mustache. A secondary goal is to raise $200 SGD which will go towards the local organization, Singapore Cancer Society and towards Movember in their campaign to create dialogue about health issues that men face.
