Writing in 5DC

Students in 5DC have been hard at work writing their persuasive essays.  The writing focus in this piece of work is on organization.  There was a strong need in the class to use paragraphs and to logically structure paragraphs in a way that would allow the reader to understand the writer's ideas with greater ease.

Research skills and applying what was discovered in their research is also being taught explicitly.  Students now have an understanding of how statistics, facts, quotes and examples can be woven into their writing pieces to give their persuasive arguments some added weight instead of relying solely on reasoning.  Students have been very successful in incorporating their newly discovered information along with adding references within the body of their text to their sources.

Logistically, in addition to adding to their persuasive essays by writing the next paragraph on their google docs, students were expected to read the comments and make the appropriate revisions.  They would receive feedback through individualized comments directly on their google docs along with a short evaluation (checklist) for that day's work.

I am extremely proud of the work the the students have been doing over the course of this writing unit.  Not only have they have shown themselves to be savvy researchers, 5DC students have proved to themselves that they are capable of writing with strong organization.
