Week 2

With a blink of an eye, the second week has passed us by.  You know what they say about time that flies.  It's time that is full of fun and learning!

We are hunkering down on our abilities to write with good ideas.  Students were given the chance to read and evaluate samples of writing that were considered strong and weak in idea development.  Coming out of some discussions and class activities is an initial understanding that good writing contains juicy details and unique ways of conveying an idea.  5DC will have chances to practice writing with stronger ideas in the next week.  Come back to check out some examples next week.

In the unit of inquiry, students had the chance to express through role play, their understandings of the words, social, physical, emotional, and academic.  Before entering the role play skits, students were given a set of cards with scenarios written on them.  Using each other, students sorted them first under their own categories and then under categories that I gave them.  The last part of this activity involved students writing their own scenarios that would highlight one or a combination of the terms under investigation.

On Friday, during the assembly, an award was given out to celebrate a student who demonstrated the IB learner profile attribute, RISK TAKER.

We would like to congratulate Lucas for earning this award.  He is new to the school and to Singapore, but he has not let that set back his social and academic development.  Within the first minutes of the new school year, Lucas was participating in class discussions and getting to know his peers.  Well done Lucas!

Monday is Hari Raya, a designated public holiday to celebrate the end of fasting.  Please remember to stay home and enjoy time with friends, and family.
