Active in ISS

On Friday, two of our class' students did a wonderful job hosting the end of week assembly.  We would like to thank and applaud Miya and Alex for standing up in front of nine classes to introduce the different groups who were presented.  One of those groups that presented was the recycling group, which is made up of fourth and fifth grade students.  Two of our very own were part of the presentation.  To Amy and Emily, 5DC would like to tell you how proud we are to have such dedicated and enthusiastic stewards of the environment!

An award was given out on Friday for the IB learner profile attribute, communicator.  Miya who was already involved in presenting to the upper elementary school crowd, didn't have far to walk to accept her well deserved recognition.  Miya was exemplary as a communicator this week during a maths workshop in which she was caught helping different students solve math puzzles by asking guiding questions.  We have a diverse range of learning abilities in different stages of learning, and Miya was able to work with those differences in her pursuit to help her fellow classmates.

Entering the fourth week of the year (yes, the fourth week already!), students now have a better understanding of what the words, social, emotional, academic and physical mean.  They have also observed that there are changes that we have control over, and those that we lack control over.  In the spirit of our central idea, we will inquire further into some of the changes we would like to see happen for ourselves over the course of year five.  Students in 5DC will be setting goals for their physical, social, academic and emotional development.  Simultaneously, students will be drawing out courses of action to make sure they are on track to achieving their goals.
