5DC Blogs About Student Led Conferences

Today we had student led conference. I showed and explained enjoyed the reflections I wrote while the exhibition.  She was surprised by the works I did to my mum all the works I did this year in detail.  She said that our dance was very creative, the letter writing was detailed than last year and my Chinese poster was funny. My mum was impressed by the model me and Sayma made and she said that there was a lot of detail. Also she was impressed that we were doing more difficult work. I had a great time with mum!

I thought SLC was very different from any other meeting I have had with a teacher because the teacher doesnt help with the meeting at all. I think that SLC are a little bit boring but at the same time they are quite fun. At the PE SLC there was a Just Dance vid set up. One of the dances was a Mario dance.

Today (18/4/13) it was student led conference.  Student led conference is when you bring in your parents or parent and tell them what you have done over the past months, you show them around the classroom and talk to them . It went really well we showed our parents our portfolios and our folders also our E- portfolios. We had everything organized to show our parents we all was ready to make our parents proud. My mum said to me that she is so proud and that she really liked my work. I think everyones parents felt like that because every has really good work. Everyone showed their parents around the classroom and showed them what we have been working on. We did a maths sheet with them, we all did one before so we was teaching them how we did it and how they can do it. I think that everyone did a good job even though I don’t know what they did because we all practised really well so hopefully we did the real thing really well.

Today (18.4.13) we had Student Led Conferences. I have done Student Led Conferences a few times now and they are each a little bit different like we didn’t have E portfolios before but we do now. The time I came in to show my mum the work in my portfolio was at 8:00 am. When I was showing my mum the work she was especially fascinated on my poetry anthology, mainly the poem I wrote about her and she really liked it. I showed my mum around the classroom first, I showed her my paper portfolio and my E portfolio. She was really impressed on how much I have learned and she is impressed with my work altogether. I think that Student Led Conferences are a good way to show our parents our work and sometimes they can do activities that we have done in class. My favourite part of the Student Led Conference was showing my mum my E portfolio because I really like E portfolios and its quite cool.

The student lead conference went very well except that I went over time and still didn’t get to show my parents everything. I started off saying hello to Mr Chan and then I showed my parents round the different boards. I showed them literacy circles on the board and the work I had done. On vocab enricher and discussion director. I showed them the maths board with the drawing me and Olivia did on an isosceles and I told them about the shapes and the different sides. Then I showed them the UOI board and said we were learning about landforms I showed them my poster and all. Then I showed them the cycle of inquiry. After all that I took them to my portfolio they were astonished with all the work and reflections I had done and my mum thought the reflections were a good idea because they helped you look back on your day. I took them through my exhibition scrapbook. I also showed them my math book, math posters and my brochure. I showed them my poetry anthology and all. After that I showed them my mandarin until they looked confused and asked if we could move on. I then showed them my E portfolio they looked at my fluvial, erosions and the friction and wind ones. That was when I pulled out my UOI folder and showed them my hypothesis’s and my reflections. After all that I showed them my P.E semester 1 and 2 pictures, reflections and video. Suddenly I realized I had gone over time so I finished up on the E portfolio gave them a quick skim of my math folder. They took a quick look around one last time and we walked out the door.

This morning, I woke up not thinking about the conference at all. When I got to school I felt really sleepy and the actual student led conference was really boring. Afterwards, my parents said they were really proud of me and they bought my brother and I a treat at Cedele. This experience is always really repetitive and I get really bored. However, I like how I can show my parents my work and after, they make me feel special.

Yesterday,  there was the student lead conferences. Me and my mom went my class, playground for P.E. ESL room for ESL, and music room for music. It was hard to explain about my portfolio to English. But, it was easy to explain my portfolio to Korea. That was pretty easy.
Me and my mom take 2 hours to take all my work in my school.
But, it was so bad about explaining music. The music corner was so small that I have explain to turn music.

Yesterday was the student led conference. I had such a good time at the student led conference because I shared all my work that I did during the year to my mom. I showed my UOI work to my mom, my literacy work to my mom, math work, current events work and some PE and mandarin work to my mom. All of those things are in my paper portfolio. As for my E-portfolio, I showed her the PE dance that Alex M, Alex P, Carsen, Lucas, Hanse, Suyoung and I did during the PE dancing unit, I showed all of my Unit Of Inquiry work that I did during the year. The units that we did were How the world works, Where we are in place and time, How we express ourselves, How we organize ourselves, Sharing the planet and Who we are. My mom even said that I did amazingly during the year 2012-2013!
