Week seven saw 5DC hunker back down into a regular routine. Aside from two MAP assessments and a UN night rehearsal, the class enjoyed a schedule that allowed more focus on the curriculum.
In maths, students have spent the week practicing and solidifying their knowledge in division. Most 5DC students have learned to use the partial quotient method in using 2 digit divisors to processes 3-4 digit dividends. The partial quotient method is a slight break away from the traditional method of division as it engages a problem as a whole dividend, instead of solving a problem unit by unit.
In our unit of inquiry, students are presently engaged with the idea of ethics. We found examples of ethical decisions/actions in the classroom and at school. Then we turned our attention to ethical situations in working environments to give a perspective of business and the economy that is often placed in the shadows of profit and consumption.
Market Day is scheduled for the 4th of October, which is just over one week away. Mark that off on your calendars! Students will be busily preparing for their first business ventures by writing business plans and gathering all the resources they need to be successful.
We also celebrated two birthdays this week. Happy Birthday Chiemi and Emily!
